Week 1
One sunny April day Mrs. Murphy the third-grade teacher asked all her students what they wanted to be.
Little Anne raised her hand excitedly and said she was going to be a plumber and own her own company one day. All the other kids laughed saying you’re not a boy. Only a boy can be a plumber. This made Little Anne sad but she would prove them wrong she thought. Mrs. Murphy addressed the class saying it is not right to pick on the dreams of anyone. “Anne if you put your mind to it maybe one day you will have your own plumbing company." |
Little Anne so set on proving she was a plumber went home and started to try and fix the bathroom sink even though it was not broken.
Late that May, little Anne asked to be a plumber for her birthday. She wants no other presents, only to be a plumber. Her parents gave her a small tool belt and tool box, along with a shirt and hat that said Anne the plumber.
Little Anne rushed to her room and changed into her uniform, she stood in front of the mirror smiling as she now looked like a plumber.

Week 2
Soon Little Anne was walking through the neighborhood stopping anytime she saw somebody connecting a garden hose or lawn sprinkler telling them this is a job for a plumber.
Quickly she would run over with her tools and connect their hoses or sprinkler. Little Anne’s neighbor smiled and thanked her and even gave her a couple dollars. This made little Anne feel like a real plumber oh, now she had customers.
As time went on Little Anne’s jobs got bigger and bigger and finally Little Anne was fixing leaky faucets like a real plumber, not just connecting a garden hose.

Week 3
As time went on Little Anne’s jobs got bigger and bigger and finally Little Anne was fixing leaky faucets like a real plumber, not just connecting a garden hose.
Little Anne became so well known around town that the local plumber Mr. Louie took her under his wing and began teaching her all he knew.
Little Anne became so well known around town that the local plumber Mr. Louie took her under his wing and began teaching her all he knew.
The first lesson Mr. Louie taught Little Anne was that taking pride in our appearance shows that we take pride in our work. The next lesson Mr. Louie taught Little Anne was to never over charge a customer. He taught her to always be fair with her customers: charge enough to make sure your materials are covered and you have enough to stay in business, without over charging your customer. For this is how you truly build a good relationship with your customer.
Little Anne learned at the end of the day; customers are the true heart of any good business. She was so happy and proud to be a plumber and was looking forward to start working with Mr. Louie the local Plumber.

Week 4
One day Little Anne asked Mr. Louie about some easy ways they could help people save money. Mr. Louie explained to Little Anne all about how much water is wasted each year due to leaking faucets and for example by simply putting in this dye tab into your running toilet you can see how much water you’re wasting. Customers do not realize the amount of money they can save.
Little Anne excitedly ran home to tell her mother about how she was wasting 3000 gallons of water per year due to dripping faucets. Also a running toilet waste about 1 gallon per hour that is 26 gallon if it is running all day long. Little Anne also explained how on average people waste the water bill would be so much lower with a few simple fixes.
Her mother was so proud to see how much Little Anne was learning as well as eager to save money. Little Anne's mother began telling all her friends about how much money she was saving, all thanks to her daughter. Little Anne’s mothers’ friends all wanted to save money as well and started to call Mr. Louie and Little Anne the Plumber.
Mr. Louie the local plumber did not realize but Little Anne was bringing in business and soon he was so busy he needed Little Anne's help more than ever.

Week 5
For some reason this spring Mr. Louie was so busy due to people flushing things like baby wipes, napkins, and paper towels that should never be flushed due to clogging toilets. Mr. Louie thought this would be a great learning opportunity for Little Anne to learn about drain cleaning and snaking the line.
Mr. Louie called Little Anne to ask if she was able to work today. Little Anne so excited jumped at the chance to work with Mr. Louie. Little Anne rushed to get ready as Mr. Louie would be there soon.
Once at the first customer’s home Mr. Louie and little Anne first tried to use a plunger on the backed up toilet but could not seem to get it working. Little Anne Asked if this means they need to replace the toilet since this did not work. Mr. Louie smiled and told Little Anne there are still other things they can try before such an expensive solution like that. Mr. Louie asked if Little Anne could think of any other ways she may know.
This made Little Anne think and she was at a loss as to what Mr. Louie could be thinking. Little Anne admitted she did not know of any other things and was eager to find out more. Mr. Louie asked Little Anne to go outside and grab the snake and he would be happy to show her what to do. Little Anne questioned Mr. Louie the snake? (Thought bubble above Little Anne with a live snake). Mr. Louie, busy with things did not notice the questioning look and told Little Anne yes could you please grab the snake and bring it to me.
Little Anne went outside and began to look for a snake within a few minutes. Little Anne came back in and Mr. Louie was not looking at her as he was still cleaning up the area as he reached out and grabbed the snake. As Mr. Louie grabbed the snake it began to move and Mr. Louie’s face dropped as he threw the snake into the tub. Little Anne asked what, was it the wrong kind? As she would only find garden snakes in this area.
Mr. Louie began to laugh and told Little Anne he was talking about the tool on the truck called a snake and not the kind you find in nature. Little Anne was embarrassed but laughed as they brought the snake back outside and grabbed the tool to unclog the toilet.

Week 6
Mr. Louie was very low on supplies so he picked up Little Anne and took her to Lee Way to get some of the supplies needed. Little Anne asked what could they be getting here as this was not a plumbing supply house.
Mr. Louie explained this is one of the local businesses he supports by getting all his rags, drop clothes, dust mask, and trash bags. Little Anne asked if it was cheaper to go to the big chain stores then a little local store. Mr. Louie told Little Anne that when we do that our local economy loses money and taxes go up. By buying local you help all those in the local economy. We use the larger companies when we cannot buy local.
When Mr. Louie was not looking, Little Anne picked up some things that she thought she needed as well as to support a small business.
Although Little Anne also was curious if they could do without some of these supplies like the drop clothes as they do not put things all over the floor. Mr. Louie told little Anne it is always best to leave the customers house cleaner than when you went in. We never want for our customers to have to clean up after us. This is bad business to leave a mess for the customer. Little Anne thought this was a nice way to make having to have a plumber in your house a better experience for the customer.
When Mr. Louie got back to the office and unloaded the supplies, he was wondering why there were some items like chicken feed and some tools that Mr. Louie already owned with his things. Little Anne said I put those into the order. Mr. Louie asked why chicken feed and Little Anne thought it was grass seed so their office would have a better lawn. Little Anne was embarrassed by this mistake, as she just wanted to help. Mr. Louie laughed and told Little Anne to ask next time but he would return these items this time.

Week 7
Spring time seemed to come early and Little Anne was happy that the cold weather was now behind them. As the ground thawed and nature came to life, the flowers and trees started to bloom while the birds sang their song. Beauty was all around and Little Anne loved being outside.
Mr. Louie called Little Anne and told her they were going to be helping the community today. Little Anne asked how would they be doing this as she thought this was a great thing to help others. Mr. Louie explained to Little Anne that here in town is a community garden and they are going to help with an irrigation system to help with the watering of the gardens. This will help people to grow more vegetables and a percentage of them go to the food banks so all can have fresh produce.
Little Anne and Mr. Louie worked hard all day and had to do a lot of digging and laying pipes in the ground but this was a job worth doing. There were some members of the community who showed up and helped them dig and were happy to bring the two plumbers’ lunch to thank them for helping them.
Part way through the day one little boy named Izzy wanted to help so he walked over and turned on the water. The connections had not been finished and Mr. Louie and Little Anne along with others got sprayed in the face with water. This made one little girl named Elena run over to Little Anne with a towel, she started to help Little Anne and were quickly becoming friends.
By the end of the day the job was done and Little Anne and Mr. Louie showed the people how it worked. Soon the garden will be planted and vegetables growing everywhere.
